- Resident: You must have lived in New York for 30 days.
- Age: You must be 19 years old. 16-18 year olds require specific requirements.
- Enrolled: You are eligible for the GED test if you did not graduate from high school or if your diploma is not recognized by the state of New York and must not be currently enrolled in a regular high school.

I didn't pass. How many times can you take the GED?
Some states have individual policies about retaking the test, but generally you can take the test about three times a year. Don't worry, you won't have to retake any subjects you passed previously.
Yes, any passing TASC subject test scores (2014-2021) and passing GED subject tests (2002-2013) will count towards earning your diploma. A key difference between the TASC and GED is the number of subtests included. The GED Language Arts test consists of both reading and writing. If a test taker previously passed either the TASC Writing or TASC Reading subtest but not both, they will need to take the complete RLA test.

You can earn a high school equivalency certificate by taking the New York GED test. Employers and 99% of colleges will accept a GED certificate in place of a high school diploma.

A passing score on the New York GED test is 145 points (45% correct) in each of the four subjects. You can check your score after you complete the test on your MyGED account with the GED testing service.
In New York State you must wait 60 days before retaking any failed subject/subtest and may only retake a given subject/subtest three times per year.

In New York, you must be at least 19 years of age to take a GED test.
If you are 16, 17, or 18 you must get approval to test. You will need to complete an Age Eligibility form which is located within the application when you create your online GED account. The Age Eligibility form must also be signed by the institutional official authorized to attest to the information required and the completed form mailed to the NYSED HSE Office. The chart below provides details on the requirements and which institutions are authorized to sign the form. The approval process may take up to one week, after the form is received. Please allow two full weeks for the mail to reach NYSED HSE Office. Once approved, you will be able to schedule your GED test.
